Cute DIY Gifts from Kids

I made these for Christmas one year when my son took his basketball photos. I wanted a fun way to give my family members his portrait other than mailing it in the mail or handing it to them over a quick exchange of schedules and who's bringing what to the holiday party.

We originally decided that he would bake some goodies as gifts. Both my son & I enjoy cooking and baking treats any time of year so the holidays are no exception. This was great but we still needed something to put them inside since they were fresh items.

We visited my local #DollarTree and found these awesome little plastic buckets with handles in a variety of colors. It was the perfect size for cupcakes!

I took some colored card stock I already had around to match each color bucket and attached the photo in the center with glue. I added my sons name "Johani Snacks" and the flavor cupcake vanilla ( keep it simple for the kiddos ) along the sides.

While you make these, make a simple cake/cupcake box mix and follow the instructions for cupcakes. Let the child decorate the cupcake on their own with your help or use this time to bust out your creative juices and decorate them yourself!

I strongly suggest making the cupcakes the morning of the party or that you will be giving them away to maintain freshness as these containers are not initially meant for storing goods.

When the cupcakes are completely cooled, you are ready to place the cupcake in the bucket or holder you choose. Place the card stock with the photo against the edge of the bucket FIRST and simply tape the back to the inside of the bucket so it doesn't get ruined by frosting and can be easily taken out for display. Add a dime amount of frosting to the bottom of the cupcake to help it avoid sliding around in the container and place the cupcake in center. My son wrote a little message on a card that we attached at the end with string. Place the top on the container and its ready to go!
